Treatment and recovery

How is a diagnosis made?

There is no physical test, such as a blood test, that can establish the disorder. First a check is done to see if the psychosis has been caused by medications or other diseases. If this is the person’s first psychotic episode, a complete medical examination will normally be done. Often an observation period will be needed, which may involve hospitalisation.
